Demand to open memorial for Tipu Sultan

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) Minority Department’s State chairman J. Aslam Basha has urged the State government to open the ‘mani mandapam’ constructed for Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan in Dindigul soon. He condemned the government for delaying the inauguration of the memorial.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Mr. Basha said former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had announced in the Assembly in 2013 that a ‘mani mandapam’ would be constructed in memory of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. However, the State government headed by CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami was delaying the opening of the memorial though the construction work was completed. He urged the government to open the ‘mani mandapam’ immediately.

“If the government does not open the memorial before the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan that falls on November 20, we will protest and forcefully enter the memorial on behalf of the TNCC Minority Department,” he said.
